When we trust in Christ for the first time, we experience a new birth (John 1:12-13, 3:3). It’s amazing how much knowing God can change a person’s life in just six weeks.
Jessie transferred to UC Davis this year feeling indifferent towards God. “I’d always known who He was since my family is Christian,” she later told me (Jessica), “but I had never truly experienced Him.”
During the first week of classes, Jessie got a flyer for the first Cru weekly meeting and decided to go with her roommate. I met Jessie at that first weekly meeting and got the opportunity to meet with her to talk about knowing God personally a few days later.
As we talked, Jessie shared that she had attended a recent worship night put on by all the Christian groups on campus. At that worship night, she had noticed that many students around her had a joyful, passionate relationship with God. As she watched the students worshiping, she became sad because she knew that she didn’t have the same kind of relationship with God.
How amazing is it that God freely offers us a relationship with Himself through the death and resurrection of His Son? God gave me the chance to share simply and clearly with Jessie the great news of how she could know God personally, too. As Jessie understood God’s love and mercy, she felt compelled to surrender her life to Christ.
Earlier this week, Jessie told me, “Learning more about Him has changed my perspective on many different facets of life, all for the better.” Praise our Lord Jesus for bringing Jessie to know Him and making such a difference in her life!
Jessie and I have been meeting weekly to talk about how she can continue to grow in her new faith and understand Christ more each day. Pray that Jessie would continue to follow Christ for a lifetime!
